Job Opportunity – CCO Ontario High Performance Coach

February 22, 2007 – Cross Country Ontario is inviting applications for the position of Ontario High Performance Coach. This a new full-time position within Cross Country Ontario (CCO) through which the High Performance Committee (HPC) of CCo will expand and extend the cross country ski programs for high performance skier development in the Province of Ontario.

This position will be made available as a three year contract with the intention of eventually making it a full-time position within CCO. The High Performance Coach (the Coach) will report to the Chair of the HPC and will:

• provide leadership, guidance and support to the CCo High Performance cross country ski coaching community,
• assume responsibility for coordinating and executing the development and competition plans and programs for athletes on the various Ontario Cross Country Ski Teams, and to
• undertake and promote the development of high performance cross country skiing in clubs across Ontario.

Qualifications
– Certified to NCCP Level 3 with plans to pursue Level 4/5
– Post-secondary education in a physical education, recreation or sports administration field would be considered an asset but is not required
– Certified to facilitate NCCP Intro to Community Coach and Community Coach Training (or be prepared to acquire such certification)
– Ontario Driver’s Licence (Class F preferred)
– Familiarity with Ontario Coaches and the Ontario Cross Country skiing environment
– Member of the Coaches Association of Ontario Skills and Abilities
– Aptitude with a variety of computer tools including email, internet search, word processing, presentation software, and spreadsheets
– Comfortable with the use, development and application of objective performance measurement systems for athlete tracking and team selection
– Ability to communicate and work productively with people at all levels within the ski club community
– Able to operate independently as required
– Demonstrated ability as a team builder and leader
– Ability to communicate in French would be an asset but is not required
Experience
– At least five years experience as a club coach
– At least two years experience working with provincially competitive athletes
– Comfortable using coaching tools and apparatus such as heart rate monitors, lactic acid monitors, video analysis tools, training logs, etc.

Travel Requirements
This position will involve a large amount of travel, most of it within the Province of Ontario. The Coach will be expected to attend all or most Ontario district training camps, Ontario Cup races and the National Championships. In addition, in order to deliver the desired high performance outreach and development responsibilities, the Coach will be obliged to travel to visit club athletes and their coaches at their respective locations in each of the four Ontario districts. The Coach will require their own vehicle to drive to destinations within reasonable distance (mileage expense will be paid).

Remuneration
Up to $45,000 per annum including benefits, commensurate with experience.
