August 23, 2013 (St. John’s, NL) – The Outfitters Adventure Gear and Apparel in St. John’s, NL is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Nordic ski coach to join the ski department and oversee the planning coordination and execution of their ski programs, lessons and take an active role in running the ski department at the retail level.

The candidate will bring energy and expertise in their coaching ability, ski knowledge combined with the ability to motivate program participants and see that their product needs are met.
Along with training requirements, the prospective candidate will also help maintain the ski shop including preparation of equipment and planning/coordinating wax clinics during the season.  The candidate will also take an active role coordinating the annual END Program information session.

Job Requirements

Physical Training and Preparation for END Program (Effective Nordic Development)

– Plan and design dryland training program (incl. goal setting) based on previous year’s plan
– Conduct fitness testing/evaluation/interpretation of results
– Book dryland training facilities (indoor/outdoor)
– Run training sessions
– Maintain dryland training records

On Snow Training and Preparation

– Plan and design END Program on snow training and NSS training program
– Maintain Nordic ski area relations
– Coordinate training groups weekly meets
– Organize training camp(s)
– Run on hill coaching and training sessionsOversee and ensure on necessary safety measures
– Maintain training records

Equipment

– Maintain inventory records of all related program equipment (drills, spare parts, bits, radios, tool kits, wax, etc.
– Purchase new program equipment where necessary
– Manage program equipment rentals for program and lesson participants
– Assist with repair of existing program equipment where necessary
– Manage and acquire necessary hard goods for participants (skis, boots, bindings, poles, etc)

Administration

– Develop/manage necessary forms for administration of program
– Create athlete/program calendar of events/training calendar
– Write bi-weekly reports to Outfitters management
– Assist with coordination of The Outfitters Open ski race
– Assist with coordination of The Provincial Ski marathon
– Provide race result updates to media
– Prepare annual program budget as necessary
– Attend necessary meetings with club/staff/participants

Staffing

– Coordinate with support staff for NSS Program and scheduling private lessons
– Communicate with retail staff for program updates, clinics and lessons
– Conduct brief session with retail staff for benefits and overview of ski program

General Communications
Maintain regular communication with key individuals and groups

– Program and lesson participants
– Club committees
– Other club/division/national coaches
– Club athletes (provincial team)
– Zone/division administration personnel
– Equipment and supplier representatives
– Race organizing committees
– Retail staff

Business Development

– Recruit new participants into the programs through community participation
– Review technical videos and publications for any new training possibilities
– Assist with organization of CANSI certification course/seminar where appropriate
– Constant communication with prospective ski training/lesson participants and prospective ski customers

This position is full time and compensation is based on the experience and credentials of the prospective ski coach and the leadership qualities he or she brings with it combined with the ability to promote the Nordic Ski Department for The Outfitters Adventure Gear and Apparel.
