Jones and Strabel win NorthwesTel Haywood Canada Cup Sprints

March 21, 2006 – At the NorthwesTel Western Canadian Championships, the men’s race was won by Eric Strabel part of a strong Alaska contingent in attendance. Drew Goldsack, the top qualifier by several seconds, was the top Canadian in the men’s Haywood Canada Cup event, with Nova Scotia’s Ian Murray in bronze position. Local favourite Graham Nishikawa was the other finalist and the top U23 male athlete.

Perianne Jones showed good form as she finished first in the qualifying round and first overall, for the combined U23 and overall win. Tara Whitten of Alberta was second and Sarah Daitch of the North West Territories was third.

Haywood Canada Cup action from Whitehorse will continue on Tuesday.
