K2 Sports Owner of Madshus is Destined to be Sold Along with Other Major Winter Brands

by John Symon

K2_sports_logoOctober 07, 2016 (Denver, CO) – Major winter sports brands such as K2, Marker, Volkl, Full Tilt, Line and Ride are destined to be sold by owner Newell Brands Inc. report The Denver Post and Snow Industry News. The company is apparently looking to shed about 10 percent of its assets including name brands like Rubbermaid by January 1 while keeping other well known brands such as Paper Mate and Sunbeam.

This spring Newell Brands acquired Jarden Corp., parent company of K2 Sports, Marker and other wintersport companies but Michael Polk, CEO, recently told investors he would reshuffle the company’s portfolio and shed under-performing brands representing about $1.5 billion in revenue in 2015.

“The decision to pursue a sale of our winter sports businesses (inclusive of Völkl® and K2®) was part of a recently completed strategic review of Newell Brands’ portfolio. We do not plan to shut these businesses down, but rather intend to sell them to a buyer at a full and fair value. We are confident that we will achieve a successful sale of these category-leading businesses to an owner who shares our interest in unlocking their full potential,” said a Newell Brands spokesperson.

K2 Sports’ stable includes Madshus, along with Atlas and Tubbs snowshoes, and others. Madshus sponsors many top Nordic athletes including Norway’s Ingvild Flugstad Oestberg and Heidi Weng along with American xc skiers Noah Hoffman, Brian and Caitlin Gregg, Ida Sargent and more.
