Liberec 2013 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships – Preparations Well Underway

release by FIS XC
July 07, 2012 (Liberec, Czech Republic) – Four years after the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, the city of Liberec (CZE) will again host the best Nordic skiers as the FIS Junior & U23 Nordic World Ski Championships are staged in North Bohemia next year.

FIS representatives Uli Wehling, Horst Tielmann and Michal Lamplot spent two days in Liberec on 28th- 29th June to inspect the Cross-Country and Ski Jumping competition sites. The Liberec Organising Committee presented the state of preparations for the Junior World Champs and their plans for the upcoming months. The competition venues will remain in standby mode and only mobile constructions will be prepared for the Championships.

The Ski Jumping competitions will be carried out at the well-known Jested venue situated at 788 m above the see level, located on the mountain ridge just below the landmark TV tower Jested. It features two jumping hills – HS 134 and HS100 – but only the smaller hill will be used for the competitions.

The Cross-Country venue, Vesec is located only twenty minutes from the jumps. The compact Cross-Country stadium and courses are just outside Liberec and were finished in 2008, just in time for the 2009 World Championships. Despite the relatively low altitude of 460 m the course system is very demanding and counts among the toughest on the FIS Cross-Country World Cup circuit. The experience from several FIS Cross-Country and Nordic Combined World Cups which have taken place here guarantee high class racing conditions.

The Junior and U23 World Championships in Liberec will be held from 20th to 27th January 2013. In the lead up, Liberec will welcome the fastest skiers for the FIS Cross-Country World Cup on 12th-13th January 2013.
