December 23, 2003 – Quebec City-based Marchands Unis, who sell Bonelli bikes across Canada, has recently expanded it's foothold in the sporting goods industry by purchasing Andre Lalonde Sport, a well-known and respected chain of six (6) ski and bicycle specialty shops in the Montreal area with annual sales of over $15 million. Marchands with 166 Sports Excellence and Propac stores across Canada, sold its Hardware sector in February 2002 intending to focus on the Sport sector. With this recent acquistion, the company is attempting to position itself as the second largest retailer in sporting goods behind Forzani Group, by the end of 2004.
