January 24, 2005 – Canada’s Jason Myslicki capped-off the day a few spots shy of a top-30 finish at the nordic combined World Cup B event in Mitteltal-Obertal, Germany on Sunday.

Myslicki, of Thunder Bay Ont., finished a disappointing 33rd place in his second World Cup B event since the holiday break. The 27-year-old, who had hoped to secure a top-10 result in Sunday’s competition, finished the 7.5 kilometre cross-country portion of the event just over two minutes behind the leader.

“I feel like I have what is takes to compete, and I just have to get back into the swing of things,” said Myslicki, who posted his best result of the season when he finished 12th in Steamboat Springs, United States this past December. “It was a tough course to make a difference on because it is just so fast. It came down to the jumping today, and unfortunately it just wasn’t there.”

Myslicki kicked off the second leg of his World Cup B campaign since he last competed back in December, with yesterday’s Gunderson event where he finished in 30th place.

“It takes a few races to get back into the position I need to be,” said Myslicki. “I know there is work to be done, and I just need to do it.”

France’s Kevin Arnold took top honours finishing in first at Sunday’s nordic combined event, to take home the gold medal. Jan Schmid of Switzerland finished the race a mere +0.3 seconds behind Arnold to capture the silver medal, while teammate Ivan Rieder rounded out third (+04.6).

Three other Canadians, all from Calgary, suited up in Germany. Canadian results included: Max Thompson, (38); Spencer Harris, (48); Wes Harris, (49). There were 49 competitors in today’s event.

Canada’s nordic combined athletes will now head to Liberac, Czech Republic for World Cup B competition on January 26th.
