Nipika Mountain Resort Hosts National Ski Team

release by CCC
August 30, 2008 (Nipika, BC) – Nipika Mountain Resort, tucked away across the Alberta border in the unique BC wilderness area adjacent to Kootenay National Park, is a new CCC sponsor and host to training opportunities for the National Ski Team this summer.

Under the leadership of Lyle Wilson, an ex-NST coach, Nipika Resort was a pioneer in hosting summer Nordic ski training camps and glacier skiing throughout the 1980s prior to the establishment of the Haig glacier camp. Almost 20 years later, Nipika has rekindled its connection with the National Ski Team this summer. Within just two hours drive of the Canmore Training Centre, it offers excellent proximity to all the required training opportunities for the Nordic athlete – a variety of roller skiing options, trail and mountain runs and endless mountain biking opportunities. National Ski Team coach Eric de Nys has been elated in being able to add this retreat to the team’s repertoire of training venues: “Nipika Mountain Resort has been an integral part of our training this summer. It offers the perfect off the grid training environment. We have completed some good hard work, not far from our back door in Canmore, while having some fun and being relaxed at the same time.” The team will have competed thirteen days of dryland training by the end of the summer. The next NST training camp in September at Nipika will be shared with the Callaghan Valley Training Centre. If you have not experienced Nipika and all it has to offer, put it on your wish list – you will not be disappointed.
