North American Junior Nordic Combined Championships

March 28, 2009 (Steamboat Springs, CO) – The US Nordic Combined Ski Team has done a fantastic job this year winning the world championships. Dave Jarrett head coach of the US NC Ski Team is helping support a development team training in Steamboat Springs, CO. They showed promise in Europe at the Junior World Championship in Strbske, Pleso. Here are some photos and a report from the North American Junior Nordic Combined Championships held in Steamboat Springs from March 13-15.

North American Nordic Combined Junior Championships Report
The Nordic Combined North American Junior Championship was held at Howelsen Hill, Steamboat Springs, CO March 13-15. This event attracted the best Junior Nordic Combined and Special Jumpers from all U. S. divisions and Canada. Local Skiers Brett Denney and Taylor Fletcher both from Steamboat Springs took top honors in the Normal Hill 10K Nordic Combined individual event. Denney started the race 28 seconds behind Fletcher and finished ahead in an exciting photo finish with a time of 25:24. Nick Hendrickson (Park City) finished 3rd and Colin Delaney (Lake Placid) 4th. These athletes have been training at the Winter Sports Club under Coach Martin Bayer.

The Canadian Team #1 won the Special Jumping Team Event. The Rocky Mountain Division Team of Brett Denney, Taylor Fletcher, Cliff Field and Erik Lynch all of Steamboat Springs finished in second place and the Intermountain Team took 3rd place in the NORAM Championship.

Brett Denney, Taylor Fletcher and Nick Hendrickson recently returned from Europe where they competed in a World Cup in Chaux-Neuve, France and competed in the FIS World Junior Championships in Strbske Pleso, Slovakia. The U.S. Juniors Nordic Combined team comprised of Brett, Taylor Nick Hendrickson (Park City) and Colin Delaney (Lake Placid) finished in ninth place in the FIS World Junior Championships. The U.S. Juniors did well in the individual events also. The best U.S. individual finishes were in the Nordic Combined Normal hill 10K Gundersen event Brett Denney 11th, Taylor Fletcher 12th, Nick Hendrickson 42nd, and Colin Delaney 51st.
