Northug to Skip Vasaloppet Due to Stomach Ailment

by skitrax.com
February 29, 2012 (Norway) – Norwegian cross-country ski king, Petter Northug Jr., will not be on the start line at Sunday’s Vasaloppet. The traditional 90km race from Salen to Mora was one of the main season goals for the multiple World Champion from Meraker. However, it will not happen this year due to stomach problems being suffered by the Norwegian ace.

The difficult decision was made by men’s head coach Trond Nystad and Norway’s team doctor Knut Gabrielsen. “It’s a pity not to go to the Vasaloppet as it was my main goal after the Tour de Ski. I was looking forward to measuring myself with the best long distance specialists, especially as I did well in Marcialonga,” said Northug through his spokesman Otto Ulseth.

Northug has been coping with stomach problems that forced him to leave the high altitude training camp at Seiser Alm.
