Norwegian Biathlon Team Signs on With Silver Star for Pre-2010 Training

release by Silver Star

April 25, 2008 (Silver Star, BC) – Silver Star Mountain Resort is thrilled to announce that the Norwegian Biathlon Team will join their compatriots on the Norwegian Cross Country Ski Team in making the Okanagan resort their official ‘pre Olympic training facility’ prior to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver/Whistler.

“The vote of confidence that having the Norwegians coming to train at Silver Star should not be underestimated,” enthused Silver Star Nordic Manager Glenn Bond. “We will have the Number One ranked cross country ski team and the Number One ranked biathlon team training at Silver Star in the run-up to 2010!”

Silver Star and the Sovereign Lakes Nordic Club have been on quite a roll, lately. A bid from Sovereign Lakes successfully landed the World Masters Games in 2011, while both Finland and Australia have also announced their intentions to stay at Silver Star and train on the trails at both Silver Star and Sovereign Lakes.

Nordic racing has a deep history at Silver Star Mountain Resort and Sovereign Lakes, with both the resort and the club having hosted World Cup, Nor-Am races, Continental Cups and dozens of regional, provincial, and national events. The resort is also cited by alpine skiing magazines such as Ski Canada for being ‘the best place for couples who downhill and cross country ski’.

Michael J. Ballingall, Senior Vice-President for Sales and Marketing, welcomed the news of yet another team signing on for Silver Star. “When the Winter Olympics were first announced, the Liberal government announced their intention that the Games would benefit all regions of British Columbia, not just Whistler and Vancouver. We now have concrete evidence that we will be able to see elite-level international athletes at Silver Star in the run-up to what will surely be one of the greatest competitions and parties that British Columbia has ever seen. It truly will be ‘our time to shine’ as a resort.”
