November 18, 2003 – Wolves, elk, otters, fumaroles, bison warming themselves above steam vents, wonderful 50-year-old snowcoaches and far fewer snowmobiles than ever – that's a taste of Yellowstone this winter. And if you've enjoyed his articles, come along and meet SkiTrax editor-at large: Jonathan Wiesel.
Jonathan will be co-host and ski/snowshoe guide for a trip sponsored by Off The Beaten Path, based in Bozeman, Montana. The adventure runs February 3-8; starts at the Bozeman airport and moves to Mammoth Hot Springs and the Lamar Valley (often called “the American Serengeti”); then to Norris and Old Faithful; and back north for a night at Chico Hot Springs Resort in Montana's Paradise Valley.
The other guide is Bill Bryan, co-founder of Off The Beaten Path, a big delightful guy (he looks like a football tackle!) who knows Yellowstone in all seasons. Figure on spectacular skiing and snowshoeing, hot springs, geysers, these two old geezers – and maybe mule deer, bald eagles, coyotes, trumpeter swans, pronghorns, and bighorn sheep.
Contact Off The Beaten Path at 800-445-2995 (www.offthebeatenpath.com), tell them Jonathan sent you – and if you come, you'll get wonderful (mostly true) stories from Yellowstone trips over the past 25 years. And bring your camera — and film!
