Olympians from APU Nordic Ski Center Hosting Fast and Female Event – Sept. 28

APU logo_apu_2010 September 26, 2014 (Anchorage, Alaska) – On September 28th, three Olympians from the Alaska Pacific University (APU) Nordic Ski Center, Sadie Bjornsen, Holly Brooks and Kikkan Randall, will join other elite female athletes representing a variety of sports in hosting the Fast and Female 2014 Champ Chat, Anchorage Edition. The afternoon of athletic inspiration and fun for girls between the ages of nine and 19 will be held at the East Anchorage High School from 12 – 3pm, with check-in beginning at 11:45 (to learn more details about the event, go here.

This weekend’s Anchorage-based event is sponsored by Fast and Female, a growing, non-profit organization started in 2005 by 2006 Olympic gold medalist in cross-country skiing, Chandra Crawford of the Canadian National Ski Team. The mission of Fast and Female is to support, motivate and empower girls ages nine through 19 to stick to sports and a healthy lifestyle by delivering inspiring, innovative and high-impact programming led by Olympic and elite athletes as well as offering educational content to parents and coaches of young, female athletes. Through positive, fun and empowering experiences across an array of sports, the vision of Fast and Female is to establish a foundation for success in life. For the three Olympic athletes from the APU Nordic Ski Center, their dedication to the mission and ideals of Fast and Female goes beyond their involvement in events like the one being held this weekend at East High. As students at Alaska Pacific University, Randall, Brooks and Bjornsen are applying classroom learning and focusing their degree requirements, such as senior and professional projects, in directions that will enhance both the reach and effectiveness of Fast and Female to empower girls for life through supporting healthy, active lifestyles.
