Over 2 million Spectators at FIS World Cup Events

April 23, 2010 – The FIS World Cup tours in the six Olympic disciplines attracted over 2 million spectators (2.061 million) during the past 2009/2010 season, after narrowly missing the milestone during the 2008/2009 season.

During the long season, from October 2009 to March 2010, 279 FIS World Cup competitions were organized in these six disciplines in 15 different countries. Each of the 108 World Cup organizers invested major efforts to deliver their events.

In the Viessmann FIS Cross-Country World Cup, 48 races in 11 nations including the FIS Tour de Ski, were able to grow the spectator number by 25 % to more than 600`000 spectators. The Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup was organized in 12 nations and the 66 races attended some 520`000 spectators on site. The Bauhaus FIS Ski Jumping World cup also collected over 600`000 spectators in nine different countries. The 22 races in DKB Nordic Combined World Cup was also visited by over 100`000 sport fans.

The FIS Freestyle World Cup travelled to 14 different nations, where 17 organizing committees staged 60 competitions with more than 50`000 spectators enjoying the athletes’ spectacular performances. The LG Snowboard FIS World Cup visited the most nations, a total of 14, and attracted more than 150`000 snowboard fans, which was 25% more than during the previous season.
