Petra Majdic and Slovenian Team in Full Swing

by FIS XC

August 17, 2010 – The most intensive part of summer preparation has just ended for Slovenia’s Petra Majdic. Majdic spent ten days in her home training base in Rogla and then moved to Toblach, Italy for another ten days of hard training.

“When you are away from home for such a long time – three weeks – it’s difficult to train. Every third day I had an extremely tough workout. The whole time we were at high altitude, first in Rogla and then in Toblach. This system made our training camps even more demanding than normal altitude,” explained Majdic.

Following her well publicized injury at the Olympics Majdic is back in shape. “I have made it through all the workouts without injury. Mentally I am even stronger than ever. It’s difficult to estimate my current shape. A lot depends on one’s psyche and how stressful my individual training will be. I have made significant progress in free technique,” continued the Olympic bronze medalist, who will be focusing on lighter training and sponsor obligations this coming week.

“Originally we planned to go to Ruhpolding, but the stadium has been under construction for the Biathlon World Champs. So we decided to go to Toblach instead,” explained Slovenian head coach, Jan Hudac. “We’ve had very good experiences there in winter and I think that all of our preparations have been very good. We’ve had no obstacles such as injuries or excessive fatigue,” added Hudac.

The rest of the team Slovenian “A” team and U23 team have been at a training camp in Pokljuka. “We had three weeks of very high quality preparation at altitude in Rogla,” said team coach Marko Gracer. “Katja Višnar, Vesna Fabjan and Barbara Jezersek have shown good results compared to this time last season. We can be optimistic for the future,” said Gracer.

Majdic will continue with training on the Dachstein Glacier, in Ramsau, Austria, on August 28th.The rest of the women’s A team will join her there. “We will have two rounds of 14-day camps there. In the middle of October we will head up to Scandinavia for our first natural snow training,” explained Hudac as he outlined the Slovenian fall training plans.
