by Peter Graves

October 27, 2010 – A former cross-country skier and Finnish Ski Association (FSA) officials are among those who have been implicated in what has been an ongoing stellar investigation by authorities, according to a web-based story appearing in the International edition of the Helsingin Sanomat sports pages.

Just 48 hours following the news that the FSA had borrowed money from its skiers’ fund to patch up its finances, it was announced today that District Prosecutor, Mikko Jaatinen, will be pressing fraud and perjury charges against former top XC skier Jari Rasanen, former FSA XC chief Pekka Vahasoyeinki, former Finnish coach Antti Leppavuori, and former FSA Managing Director Jari Piirainen.

According to the story, “They are to be charged with giving knowingly false statements in a successful libel action brought against the Finnish News Agency STT following STT’s claims in 1998 of widespread doping and the use of human growth hormone within Finnish cross-country skiing.”

It is expected that the case will be heard in the Helsinki District Court – read more HERE.
