Roller Skiing World Cup Season Begins in Markkleeberg, Germany

June 16, 2010 (Markkleeberg, GER)More than 100 athletes from 10 countries will be participating in the opening of the Roller Skiing World Cup this weekend. The FIS Roller Skiing World Cup will visit Markkleeberg (GER) for the fourth time since 2007. The three-day event starting on Friday, 18th June will feature a prologue in free technique, followed by a free technique sprint on Saturday and a pursuit race on Sunday.

The side program of the World Cup weekend in Markkleeberg will include a festive opening of the new water sports facility in Auenhain Bay. Visitors and fans will enjoy and explore the lake with a wakeboard. In addition, sailing boats can be rented and the Roller Skiing industry has prepared a product testing program.

On 19th June from 9pm it will be time for culture – a Midsummer’s Eve concert. After the successful first edition in 2009, the West Saxon Lake Symphony Orchestra will deliver an “Italian Night”. The classics of Italian opera will be played including Verdi’s Nabucco and La Traviata and Puccini’s Turandot and many more.

The World Cup season is then planned to continue in Bad Peterstal (GER) from 23rd-25th July and in Norway, Aure and Kristiansund, in mid August. The last two stages are planned in Italy – Prato Nevoso, Cuneo and Chiusa – in mid-September before the season finals in Naousa, Greece, at the end of September.
