November 21, 2013 – Russia and France are joining the service truck revolution with the debut of new team rigs on the FIS World Cup cross-country skiing scene this season. The trucks will join the convoy, which currently includes Canadian, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Italian, Swiss, and German mobile wax rooms.
Sweden was the first to acquire a wax truck in 2009 – the results were dramatic as they could be “on snow” in half an hour. Norway did not take long to react, and quickly adopted the similar tactic the following season, with an investment as big as its ambition.
When fully open, the Russian service area will be 4 metres wide, and a length of 12 meters offering enough space for 14 full-time servicemen. The truck also features powerful ventilation and good lighting, everything needed for a quality working environment. Currently, it’s on its way to Moscow to check in, and then it will immediately head to Kuusamo, Finland to its first FIS World Cup start.
French Wax Truck to Power Up in December
The French Ski Federation has announced that it will debut its new wax truck this coming December. The truck will be shared between the Cross Country, Nordic Combined and Biathlon teams throughout the winter.
The waxing truck will contain a stone grinder, 6 wax tables and plenty of storage, as well as a high quality ventilation system to ensure healthy conditions for the service staff. Read all about the new Team France Nordic service truck here (in French).
