Russia Reshuffles Deck adding Anti-Doping Decree and Hopes for Triumph in Sochi

May 21, 2010 (Moscow) – Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov was recently elected head of the Russian Olympic Committee while former committee head Leonid Tyagachyov, who resigned in early March following Russia’s dismal performance at Vancouver 2010, was elected committee honorary president.

Meanwhile after raising the official flags of the Games in Sochi, President Dmitry Medvedev stated,”The nation and the world must be assured that their 2007 pick of Sochi for the 2014 Winter Games will result in some of the best remembered sporting events of the century.” Medvedev has also urged the creation of a major anti-doping organization in Russia and signed a federal decree to this effect.
