July 12, 2008 – Following his retirement from the Canadian Alpine team after the 2006/07 season, becoming a new dad, and taking over as President of Alberta Alpine Ski Association, it appeared that Thomas Grandi was moving on to the next phase of his life. However the Vancouver Sun recently reported that Grandi plans a return to racing in preparation for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games.

“The pull of the Olympics has simply proven to be too much for me,” Grandi told the Sun. “My return to ski racing as Canada hosts the 2010 Winter Olympics is an opportunity that can never come again, especially with my wife seeking to compete in cross-country.” A true sports power couple, Grandi and cross-country’s Sara Renner both have world cup medals on their resumes. Grandi left the sport of alpine racing as the best ever men’s technical skier having won two world cups. Behind Beckie Scott, Renner is the next best female Nordic skier in Canadian history.
