Selection Criteria for 2005 World University Games

October 29, 2003 – Event: 2005 FISU Games, Innsbruck-Seefeld, Austria http://www.universiade-innsbruck.org/ Team Size: Six men and six women. Dates:January 12-22, 2005.

Eligibility: Athletes must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for selection: a) Be a minimum of 17 years of age and a maximum of 27 years of age as of January 1, 2005. b) Be an authorized Canadian citizen. Citizenship to be authorized by a valid Canadian passport. c) Be a full time student who has registered for the winter semester 2004 or who is registering to be a full-time student in the 2004/05 season. Athletes falling into the latter category must arrive at the Canadian Championships with their application for university/college acknowledged officially by the registrar of the institution to which they have applied. This means confirmation of application, not confirmation of acceptance. Athletes in this category are encouraged to initiate the application process immediately, indicating the required timeline to the Registrar, as the process can be lengthy. (Note: Athletes who graduate in the spring of 2004 are eligible to compete in the 2005 Games). d) Hold a valid CCC license holder for the 2003/2004 and 2004/2005 seasons.

Selection: Selection will be made as follows: a) Selection Races. Races must be CCC sanctioned 2003/04 Canada Cup races orhigher (only exception Ontario University Championships 2004). Seehttp://canada.x-c.com/main.asp?cmd=doc&ID=1689&lan=0  for a list of events. b) CPL points from an athleteís best four races will be used for selection, with aminimum of two races to be counted from the 2004 Canadian Championships in Charlo, New Brunswick (March 14-23, 2004). c) A combination of sprint and distance races may be used for selection. A maximum of two sprint races can be counted. d) If a selected athlete decides he/she cannot be part of the Team, the athlete with the next best selection points will be selected in their place (to a maximum of six men and six women).

Fees: Athletes selected to the Team and accepting the nomination must pay a $500 deposit and sign the Team contract by April 10, 2004, to confirm their intent to be on the Team. The deposit will only be refunded to athletes if they have conflicting NST obligations or if severe injuries or sickness make prevent them from representing Canada at the Games.
