Silver Star Hires New Nordic Manager

July 07, 2011 (Silver Star, BC) – Silver Star Mountain Resort is excited to announce that Guy Paulsen of Vernon, BC will be taking over the roll as Nordic Manager starting Monday July 11th. Paulsen has a long and positive history with Silver Star and the ski industry and is nationally respected as an ambassador for the sport of skiing. As a graduate of the Ski Resort Operations & Management program at Selkirk College in Nelson, BC in 1983 Paulsen started as a Ski Pro at Silver Star, quickly worked his way up to Ski School Director, and finished his tenure as General Manager in 2000 during some challenging years for the resort. During a hiatus from the ski industry Paulsen gained valuable business experience as co-developer of a successful start-up agri-tourism business and more recently is involved as a draftsman & project manager with an award winning architectural firm.

Recently, Paulsen has found time in the winter months to return to his primary passion of teaching both Alpine and Nordic skiing. While already a very active member of the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance (CSIA) as a Level IV Examiner, member of two Interski teams, and many industry boards, Paulsen has increased his level of involvement with the Canadian Association of Nordic Instructors (CANSI) where he holds a Level III certification. He currently acts as a Pacific Committee Member and National Technical Committee Advisor. “I have always had a deep appreciation of the mountain resort industry and desire to serve in it” says Paulsen. “Contributing towards building a strong and vibrant Nordic business at Silver Star is a great opportunity and I am excited to get started.”

“At Silver Star Mountain, Nordic skiing, the community of recreational skiers, and the long list of performance athletes that have been coming here for the past 20 years are a very important part of the resort’s culture and business” says resort General Manger, Michael Sherwood. “We are excited by Guy’s enthusiasm and are confident that he will assist Silver Star in continuing to offer the superior Nordic product we are famous for as well as grow our profile in the Nordic community.”

Paulsen’s first task will be to take over control of the vibrant early season ‘XC Camps’ that have been running at Silver Star since iconic cross country coach Marty Hall kicked them into action in the early 90’s. “I have been coaching the camps for a number of years and I can’t wait to see all those familiar faces again” says Paulsen. He goes on to add, “We have many of the same coaches lined up again for this year and are looking forward to a great couple of weeks. Silver Star’s unique combination of superb early XC trail conditions, outstanding coaching staff coupled with ski to your door accommodation is unique anywhere in the world. And it’s here in our backyard! It is my hope more local and regional skiers come out and experience what so many other skiers travel the world to come and see.” The early season ‘XC Camps’ run from November 21 to December 4. Go to www.xccamps.ca for more camp info.
