Skill Development Camps 2011

May 18, 2011 – Cross Country Canada (CCC) will sponsor Skill Development Camps hosted by its member clubs based on the merits of the respective proposals it receives. – Track Attack Skill Development Camp Hosting Requirements.

What is a CCC Skill Development Camp?

A CCC Skill Development Camp is an integral part of a progressive club athlete development system. Camps can help children learn ski related technical skills, teamwork, self reliance and good eating habits. They can facilitate the recruitment of new participants, motivate, promote friendships, influence lifestyle choices and provide a positive introduction to activities that encourage physical fitness.

Skill Development Camps are part of CCC Track Attack Program, and target children in the Learning to Train stage of development.  Refer to Target # 8 and Target #15 of the Attack Log for an outline of the program’s objectives.

Planning Your Camp

For detailed information on how to organize a CCC Skill Development Camp refer to the NCCP L2T (Dryland) Reference Material, pages 160-191. For additional information on activities and games that are appropriate for this age range, refer to other sections in the same manual.

Who is Eligible to Host CCC Skill Development Camps?

CCC member clubs. The use of a CCC camp waiver form is required if an athlete is not a current member of the host club.  Refer to page 167 in the L2T Reference Material.

How to Apply

To host a CCC Skill Development Camp, a club must submit a brief proposal that includes the camp agenda (see page 171 of the L2T Reference material for an example); the date/location; the registration fee (if any); the name of the club; the name of the division, and a contact (name, phone number, email and postal address).

Applications must be received a minimum of 14 days prior to the date of your camp to allow sufficient time for shipping CCC’s Incentive awards.

Applications will be considered as submitted until supplies of materials run out.

Selection Criteria

Host clubs will be chosen based on:

-how well the proposal addresses the objectives of the Track Attack Program;

-the club’s ability to guarantee a safe, well-organized camp;

-an age-appropriate camp agenda;

–  a head coach with minimum NCCP Level 2/L2T training; and

-a minimum of 8 participants.

Who Can Participate?

– Children who are current members of a CCC club.

– Children born 2000, 2001,2002.  (L2T stage)  The use of a CCC camp waiver form is required if an athlete is not a current member of the host club.  Refer to page 167 in the L2T Reference Material.

Participation Award?

CCC will provide the camp organizers with participation awards that have a promotional benefit in the community (a CCC T-shirt) to hand out to each child within the age guidelines, and who participates fully in this event.

Host clubs must notify CCC of the expected number of participants a minimum 21 days in advance to allow sufficient time for shipping. CCC will pay for shipping the T-shirts to the host club, but the club will be responsible for shipping charges when returning unused T-shirts back to the National Office.

Registration Fees

Event organizers are encouraged to keep their camp fees as low as possible (or nil) to encourage participation. The T-shirt must not be used as a benefit in determining the registration fee.

Host Club Obligations

– To organize the camp according to the guidelines outlined in the L2T Reference Material page 160 – 191.

– To order from CCC an appropriate number of T-shirts at least 21 days prior to the event.

– To return to CCC the event registration sheet and T-shirts that were not used (names on the registration sheet must match the number of T-shirts used) within ten days of the event. At this time, payment will be due for T-shirts that are not accounted for.

– To recognize sponsorship from CCC/Sport Canada use the logos and names as appropriate (ie: on notices, press releases¡­).

Although it is not a requirement of hosting this event, CCC would appreciate some group digital photos sporting CCC’s Incentive award T-shirt.  Also include a brief summary of the activities in order to encourage others to host similar events.

Following through with these obligations is an important step in the process of acquiring future Sport Participation Development Grants from Sport Canada.  Your assistance in this regard will help build a better future for cross-country skiing.
