Stellar Weekend for Fischer!

March 21, 2005 – This past weekend was a great one for Fischer both internationally and domestically. With the final World Cup races of the season in Falun, Sweden both individual race champions and Overall World Cup champions were to be crowned. In Saturdays individual pursuit race, Fischer athlete Eugeni Dementiev of Russia won the mass sprint to capture his first world cup victory. Further back in the lead pack, Germanys Axel Teichmann finished 7th to secure the 2004-2005 Overall World Cup title.

In the womens race, Marit Bjoergen led from start to finish to cushion her position as Womens Overall World Cup Champion.
In the World Cup finals for Ski Jumping in Planica, 23 year old Bjoern Einar Romoeren of Oslo, Norway set a new World Record to win the meet. Romoeren jumped to 239 meters in his final jump.
In stormy California, Fischer athlete Lars Flora (Subaru Factory Team) won the US National 50km Championships in a three way sprint, while Fischer athlete, Abigail Larson (Subaru Factory Team) won the US National 30km Championships, and sealed her spot as overall winner of the American Marathon Series. Subaru Factory team athlete, Dave Stewart, skiing on Fischer won the mens AMS title.
FIS North American Marathon Cup winners were also crowned this weekend. Subaru Factory Team athletes Ivan Babikov and Abigail Larson won this first ever four race series.

The latest US National Ranking list, published on March 2nd, 2005 is another celebration for Fischer. Andrew Newell, after an impressive season of sprints and middle distance races including a 12th place finish at Worlds is the new leader on the points list. For women, Rebecca Dussault leads the charge.
