SuperTour #8 Telemark Skate Sprint – Zimmerman and Trygstad-Saari Win

January 28, 2009 (Telemark, Wisconsin) – A small field of sprinters took to the line for the first race of three at the Telemark, Wisconsin SuperTour series stop. Tuesday’s sprint will be follwoed by two distances races this coming weekend. There were only 10 starters in the women’s field that was narrowed down to eight for the semi-finals. Kristina Trygstad-Saari (Saab/Salomon) was the women’s top qualifier and the eventual winner in the women’s competition. Following Trygstad-Saari across the line was APU’s Katie Ronsee, with Saab/Salomon’s Kristina Strandberg in 3rd.

In the men’s race, US National team member Leif Zimmerman held off the day’s top qualifier Colin Rodgers (SVSEF) of Fischer/Craft in the “A” final to win the event. Following Rodgers across in third was CXC’s Garrott Kuzzy. Twenty men started and the field was again narrowed down to eight skiers for the semi-finals and four in each “A” and “B” finals.

Next up will be the 5/10km Classic distance races on Saturday, January 31.
