April 10, 2013 (Oro-Medonte, ON) – Team Hardwood, the competitive cross country club in Oro-Medonte, Ontario, has re-designed its summer training program and is launching an invitation to competitive skiers from other clubs to participate in it.

The club’s new program features customized training programs for individual athletes and a series of four weekend training camps.  Athletes will also undergo formal testing at the start and conclusion of the session.  The dates of the weekend camps are May 3-5; May 31-June 2; June 27-30; and August 2-5.

The program is ideal for university students who do not have access to their coach or team-mates in summer, or for any skier, Juvenile and above, who wishes to supplement their club or individual training with a summer weekend-based camp-style program.

Led by Team Hardwood coach Ron Howden, with support from Team Hardwood coach Jack Sasseville, the summer training program will be a combination of base hours (long run/hikes or roller ski sessions), ski specific drills and interval workouts (bounding, running with poles roller skiing), technique (drills and video) and strength (weight room, drills, core, circuits) sessions.

“Athletes can train on their own or with their club, but join in with a larger group four times through the summer,” explains Howden.   The program will be held in the Oro-Medonte area.  Student residences at nearby Georgian College will be available for athletes requiring accommodation.

Participation in the program will be limited to 20 participants.  Registration is through Zone4.ca.  The early bird rate is $555.00 plus HST.  The fee rises to $635.00 after April 15.

Information about Hardwood’s annual Southern Ontario High Performance Camp, to be held this year from August 24-28, 2013 will be announced shortly.
