October 30, 2005 – Fresh off its bronze medal award at the 2005 Quebec Tourism Awards, among festivals and tourism events, the Keski has risen even higher and achieved national recognition. We are very proud to announce that the Keski has been named Hertz Canada’s Event of the Year at the National awards for excellence in tourism by the Association of Tourism Industries of Canada (ATIC).

Each year the ATIC recognizes and encourages excellence in tourism with their national awards in the field of Canadian tourism. Presented by the Globe and Mail, the awards take place during the Canadian Tourism leadership summit. The ATIC’s mandate is to promote the tourism industry, assuring that it is competitive and in a constant state of growth.

The “Event of the Year” prize is awarded to an event, which promotes tourism and helps visitors have an enriching and enjoyable experience. The award is presented to International festivals or events of a cultural, sports, or general interest nature.

Remember that more than 3000 skiers participated in last year’s Keski in the Gatineau Park. Fully 74% of the participants were visitors from more than 22 different countries.

The event promotes family participation and a healthy outdoor experience. More than 11,000 people (skiers, spectators, and volunteers) took part in the event in 2005.

Claude Laramée, president of the Keskinada says, “We are the largest cross country ski event in Canada. This award demonstrates the excellence of our organization”. Mr Laramée, nearing the end of his term, is very proud of the efforts of all volunteers, the management team, the board of directors, and the numerous supporting partners that have brought this recognition from the Canadian Tourism industry.

The 28th annual Keski, which will take place from the 17th to the 19th of February 2006, will be as popular as ever with the addition of a new 16 Km classic event, some improvements to many of the existing courses, and of course lots of surprises!
