August 12, 2011 (Oberhof, Germany) – When the Norwegian National XC Team van ran out of gas on the German Autobahn near Oberhof where they were training recently, instead of thumbing a ride or hoofing it to the nearest gas station, one of the team members grabbed his roller skiing gear and used the mishap as a training opportunity, reported NRK.no.
Although he didn’t win the sprint against the vehicles travelling at high speeds on the famous Germany highway system, he did roll back with a full jerry can for the van within a short time. Just before making it back to the team’s stalled vehicle, however, the skier was stopped by police and issued a fine for his illegal foray on the freeway.
According to reports, the skier – who National Team Coach Trond Nystad refused to name – appeared somewhat unconcerned by the fine. Read the full story HERE.
