US National Championships Set to Begin Next Week

Houghton, Michigan in the state’s Upper Peninsula will play host to the 2015 U.S. National Championships beginning next week. Joey Haggenmiller, Michigan Tech Head Ski Coach and an organizer with the hosts for this year’s championships posted the following update to coaches earlier this week:

We just finished up hosting the Pre SR. Nats/Super JOQ.  We were on our normal courses with tilled tracks that were very firm until the temps rose above 0C.  We have had more heavy wet snow since.  Temps are supposed to be mild here for the next few days and then drop to more seasonal readings as you are arriving.  (Single digit lows and highs in the teens with flurries/snow showers most days.)  Hopefully, things fall into place for blue extra days of racing.

Early registration closes Dec. 28, so babysit your athletes to get them to register on time and affiliated with your programs.  Early next week after most all registrations are in, I will make wax room assignments in the wax center based upon number of athletes per team.
The Coaches Social is back thanks to Podium Wear and Salomon partnering with our OC.  Make sure to make time to come recover from sprint day race service and enjoy some of the Library Restaurant’s finest on Monday the 5th.
Peter Graves will be our stadium announcer, and I am sure he will make each of you and your athletes feel they are at a high level event.  In conjunction with Peter announcing, we would like to supplement the production of the races with cuts from some top athletes, etc.
We are planning a media availability opportunity on Friday the 2nd for highly ranked athletes and their coaches.  We will work to nail down these details in the next week and report back to you.  If you have athletes that are legit podium contenders and you want them to promote your program, etc. we would like to have them available for the media and Peter.  So, if you are in town and have A seeded athletes, try to leave some flexibility in your schedules.
The championships are key to selection for several NNF Pillar Projects including the World Junior and U23 Teams, the U18 team and OPA Cup trips as well. See team selection criteria as set by the USSA administration below and stay tuned for interviews, highlights and background from the event.
