October 7, 2006 (Park City, Utah) – The USSA Ski Jumping SuperTour will have eight events this season, U.S. Nordic Director Luke Bodensteiner announced, including one this weekend in Lake Placid, N.Y., and part of the annual Flaming Leaves autumn celebration in the two-time Olympic village.

Bodensteiner said the SuperTour will be used in part to determine athletes heading to the this season’s Continental Cup jumping, FIS Cup (events in Europe and Japan) and Junior World Championships Feb. 29-March 4 in Tarvisio, Italy. “The SuperTour is important because it gives us an opportunity to stage high-quality competitions, and we always need good domestic events,” he said.

The three events at the Olympic Ski Jumping Complex on the outskirts of Lake Placid double as SuperTour meets and form the Art Devlin Cup, the series-within-a-series honoring the late Lake Placid Olympic jumper and former U.S. champion. Two-time Olympic jumper Clint Jones won the first SuperTour (and Devlin Cup) event on July 3; he faces strong competition Saturday, especially from local favorite Bill Demong (Vermontville, NY), a three-time Olympic nordic combined skier and the 2001 U.S. normal hill jumping gold medalist.
