by Dorcas Wonsavage
March 28, 2010 (Fort Kent, ME) – First one to the top wins – the Hillclimb and the overall SuperTour Maine mini-tour. The Queen of the Climb on Sunday was Kikkan Randall (APU Nordic/USST), who finished with 1:23.0 over Rebecca Dussault (CXC Team Vertical Limit) following the three events for the mini-tour win. Dussault had the fastest time of the day but could not catch Randall. Close behind her was Holly Brooks (APU Nordic) at 1:46.4 behind Randall for third overall. Reaching the top of the Lonesome Pines peak for the overall win capped a great five days of racing for Alaska’s Randall. Then there was a gap to Kristina Strandberg (Atomic), who finished at +2:54.2, and the top Candadian, Brooke Gosling (Alberta World Cup Academy) who had Strandberg in her sights but couldn’t catch her finishing 5th.

On the men’s side, Andrew Newell (Stratton Mountain School/USST) had to keep his sprint on to beat a charging Ivan Babikov (Nordic Foothills), who had the fastest time of the day. Newell edged the Canuck by one second overall for the mini-tour win.  Torin Koos (USST) finished third, +20.5 behind Newell, keeping a margin of 9 seconds between him and 4th place finisher, Lars Flora (APU Nordic). Brent McMurtry (Canadian Ski Team), was the next best Canuck claiming 5th place just over a minute behind Newell.
