provided by the USSA

April 26, 2006 – Sprinters Andy Newell and Kikkan Randall finished their season on an historic note: Newell, in the first World Cup race in China, led the qualifying time trial and then finished third in the 1K FR sprint – the first U.S. podium since 1983. Randall, whose ninth in the Olympic sprint was the alltime best Olympic cross country result by a U.S. woman, was fifth in a 750-meter sprint in Borlaenge, Sweden, for the best World Cup result by an American woman.
