West Yellowstone Ski Festival Announces South Plateau Road Closure for SuperTour Race

release by Yellowstone Ski Festival

November 22, 2012 (West Yellowstone, Montana) – The Yellowstone Ski Festival will be hosting SuperTour Races on Friday, November 23, 2012 and Saturday, November 24, 2012 on the South Plateau. Due to the inherent danger of traveling to the race venue, the road will be CLOSED for part of the day to allow for unencumbered access for Emergency Services vehicles.

The access to this venue is limited and, in the interest of safety, the following plan will be enforced:

– 7:30am-10:00am: Racers, coaches, teams, support staff, etc. can travel uphill only.
– 8:00am: There will be two shuttle runs for athletes only. No one will be allowed on the shuttle that is not on the start list. Please arrive with enough time to check the list, board, and allow the shuttle to leave on time.
– 9:00am: Second athlete shuttle.
– 10:00am-12:00pm: All traffic ceases on south plateau road to allow access for emergency vehicles.
– 12:00pm-1:00pm: downhill traffic only.
– 1:00pm-4:00pm: Road and trails re-open to the public. Shuttle schedule and pilot car will resume on the hour. Private vehicles may follow behind the pilot car on the hour for uphill and downhill traffic. The last downhill shuttle for skiers will depart at 4:00pm.

At 1:00pm, the shuttle schedule will resume and will take skiers up to the plateau for afternoon skiing.  Skiers will need to board the 4:00pm shuttle to ensure a ride to town, unless they are able to find a carpool.
