Winter Trails Announces 2016 Regional Event Updates – Learn to Snowshoe & XC Ski Across North America

December 30, 2015 (McLean, VA) – Winter Trails has updated details for its six Anchor Site locations with complete listings including educational workshops, equipment demos and a variety of fun activities. The Anchor Sites represent the larger regional events for Winter Trails 2016 Event Series taking place during the month of January. There are almost 100 other locations spanning the entire country from Maine to Washington State. Anchor Site events offer additional winter-themed elements for a full day of activities.

Specifics include:

  • ADK Winterfest, NY – Jan 10, 2016 – A free, family friendly winter event at its Heart Lake Program Center in Lake Placid. Events for the day include guided snowshoe hikes, beginner cross country and telemark ski lessons, a ski mountaineering race, kid’s only activities, Mommy/Daddy and me ski instruction for wee ones, Nordic skating, self-guided adventures, ski and snowshoe equipment demos, ski waxing clinics, orienteering workshop, and more.
  • Weston, MA- Jan 9, 2016 – Great urban location at the junction of Mass Pike and Route 495 very near Boston. This is a snowshoe only Winter Trails event, but also offers cross-country skiing at the location.
  • Winter 4Play, MN – Jan 9, 2016 – Minnesota’s four seasons offer plenty of opportunities 4Play. Try a new winter activity for the first time or stick with a trusty favorite that works for you – there’s no wrong way to do it. We’ll provide the gear – all that’s required is you, your friends and an open mind.
  • Estes Park, CO – Jan 16, 2016 – Part of a two-day celebration of winter with many other events happening with clinics and igloo building. This is a snowshoe only event.
  • Soldier Hollow, UT – Jan 23, 2016 – Site of the 2002 Winter Olympics. After cruising the trails you can settle in at the lodge for hot cocoa by a cozy fireplace.
  • Tahoe Donner, CA – Jan 24, 2016 – Join Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Area for the first ever Winter Festival. Discounted trail passes at $10 each and $15 rentals will be available, including free lessons, tours and ski equipment demonstrations. Festival-goers will also enjoy live music and delicious BBQ.

Winter Trails locations, hours and offerings are posted at WinterTrails.org as they are announced. Venues include alpine resorts, Nordic centers, state parks, National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service land. Details accompany each event’s listing on the Winter Trails website. Advanced registration is suggested, but many sites also offer on-site registration. Check the location listing for specific information.

Winter Trails offers children and adults new to snow sports a chance to try snowshoeing and/or cross country skiing at venues throughout North America. There is no charge at most events for the use of equipment or trails. Most locations offer snowshoeing AND cross country skiing. Some locations only offer snowshoeing. Current alpine skiers and/or snowboarders are also encouraged to try an alternative snow sport.
