April 10, 2009 (Whistler, BC) – The first annual Whistler Olympic Park Loppet was recently held on April 4 on the beautiful Callaghan Valley trails. With many National cross-country and Nordic Combined teams from different countries in town scoping out the trails for next year’s 2010 Olympic Games the start list was spotted with numerous World Cup athletes.

Olympic silver medalist Claudia Nystad of Germany won the women’s 30km mass start skate event and Swiss sprinter Eligius Tamborinio won the men’s event. Just 0.5 seconds separated the top five men and US Nordic Combined star Bill Demong was third just 0.3 seconds back from the winner. For more on the event click here.
