World Cup Biathlon #6 Antholz-Anterselva – Leguellec 7th, Burke 11th

January 24, 2009 (Antholz-Anterselva, Italy) – Day 3 of the World Cup Biathlon stop in Antholz-Anterselva, Italy saw both the women and men competing in the 10/12.5 km pursuit event. Jean Philippe Leguellec of Canada recorded one of his best ever finishes with a 7th place just +49.0 seconds off the winning time of Bjorn Ferry of Sweden – Leguellec shot clean. The USA’s Tim Burke continues to show great second half of the season form with a 11th place finish + 1:11.9 off of the winning time of 33:19.4. In second was Simon Eder of Austria + 17.6 back, and Emil Hegle Svendsen was third + 24.7 second off. Two other Canadian’s started the race, Robin Clegg and Brendan Green finished 47th and 48th respectively. Burke was the lone American racing.

In the women’s race Anna Boulygina of Russia won with a time of 32:49.8, just 2.3 seconds ahead of Kaisa Makarainen of Finland. Darya Domracheva of Belarus was just 2.3 seconds back. Zina Kocher of Canada skied a strong 10km to finish in 29th at 2:51.8 off the lead time with five missed shots on the day. No other North American’s started the pursuit.
