November 27, 2003 – The AST will be traveling to the World Junior Selection Races in Kelowna for the races on December 18 to 21 at the Telemark Ski Club. The Alberta Ski Team will consist of the six AST members and the three National Junior team members, plus up to an additional 4 athletes to be named after the December Nor-Am in Calgary (selection criteria below).

The AST will leave Calgary on Monday December 15 and travel to Kelowna. A stop in Canmore will be arranged to pick up athletes if needed. Monday will be a travel day with Tuesday and Wednesday as training days and race prep for the Thursday race. There will also be races on the Saturday and the Sunday. The team will then travel home to Calgary.

Dec 15 – 8:30AM Departure from C.O.P. 4:00 to 5:00 PM Arrival in Westbank Dec 21 – Depart Westbank after races, return to Calgary (will confirm Departure time from Road)

The AST will be staying at the Holiday Inn in Westbank on the west side of the bridge in Kelowna. The hotel is very close to the Telemark Ski Club, who will be hosting the races. Some of the other Alberta club teams will be staying there as well which is great for all the Alberta athletes. Michael Neary will be the Team Leader for the trip, working with the other club coaches to provide the best support possible for all the Alberta Ski Team Athletes. We believe this will work out best for the athletes because they can travel with the Alberta Ski Team and still have contact with their own club coach. With this format we believe you and your athletes will have the best support that Alberta can provide, and in return, all the athletes will have to worry about is racing to the best of their ability.

Holiday Inn Westbank 2526 Dobbin Rd Westbank, BC 1-888-801-8882 (250)768-8879 The athletes will be provided with a $25/day food allowance, rather than organized group meals. Some of the rooms will have fridges microwaves for those who wish to buy groceries.

The trip will have a full subsidy for the six members of the AST as this will be the main trip for them. The additional athletes including the National Junior team will have a subsidy as well but not a full one. The trip will cost $300.00 per additional athlete. This is a great opportunity to be part of a team and get excellent support at the races.
