XC Oregon Offers 2005 Programs for College Students

provided by XC ski

March 30, 2005 – The non-profit (501c3) XC Oregon elite development XC ski
team is proud to announce several new and expanded programs that will be of great interest to collegiate XC skiers in Summer 2005. These programs are now open for application and/or additional information.

Summer 2005 Paid (Very) Part-Time Contract Work

Both XC Oregon and the non-profit American Cross Country Skiers are
offering a limited number of very part-time independent contracts for
specific work assignments during Summer 2005. The nature of the contracts
available are varied and may include website design/programming, database
management, statistical analysis, public relations and marketing,
translation services, and/or freelance writing.

Due to the nature of the contract work being offered, a preference will be
given to collegiate applicants within one calendar year of graduation.
Aspirations and desire to stay connected to the sport of cross country
skiing as an athlete, educator, or in another capacity post-graduation will
also be taken into consideration.

Note: Several projects will be ideally suited for female collegiate skiers.
We very much recommend female skiers consider this program!

Specific contracts to be awarded range from $300-1000. Amount of each
contract will vary depending on the work involved and experience of the
applicant. Every effort will be made to award contracts to a wide range of
suitable college applicants. Extensive knowledge, experience, and/or
willingness to learn about competitive cross country skiing is required.
All applicants must be planning on being physically in Bend, Oregon a large
portion of the Summer 2005 term.

These independent contracts will constitute very part-time employment
positions similar to an internship assignment. It is expected that college
skiers will have other employment obligations as well as time for training
and social activities. A due date will be established for each project with
feedback provided by XC Oregon and/or AXCS representatives…but otherwise
each project will be self-managed by the applicant.

The Summer 2005 contract work program has been designed to comply with NCAA
by-law 15.2.4.1 “Employment During Summer”. However, any athlete or coach
is encouraged to confirm with your campus compliance officer that this
program will not endanger athletic eligibility.

applications is May 6, 2005.

Summer 2005 Central Oregon Community College XC Ski Training Class

The COCC Department of Health and Human Performance is once again proud to
offer our highly successful summer XC ski training class taught by XC
Oregon Coach J.D. Downing.

The class begins June 20 running until August 10 on Monday and Wednesday
evenings from 6-7:40pm (perfect for avoiding the heat of the summer). Cost
is $71 plus a $25 one time new reg fee (in additional years you skip the
$25). The class fee includes summer access to the COCC fit center (full
weight room and cardio equipment) which is open Mon-Thurs until August 11.
In some cases the class can be used for academic credit at other
institutions.

Various westside Bend locations are utilized for a wide variety of dryland
training methods including specific foot, running, roller skiing, gym and
field strength, technique drills, plyos/spenst, and more. The class
attracts a wide range of participants ranging from local elite skiers to
recreational masters. In past years it has not been unusual to have notable
guests attend specific sessions including Olympic Champion Beckie Scott,
Justin Wadsworth, Patrick Weaver, and others. Several dozen visiting
collegiate skiers have enjoyed the benefits of having structured training
provided throughout the summer…often going on to “best ever” results the
next season!
