Zografski Wins Junior Worlds Ski Jumping Gold – USA’s Frenette Kicks Off in 27th

January 29, 2011 (Otepaa, Estonia) – Peter Frenette (Saranac Lake, NY) was the top U.S. finisher in 27th in the men’s HS 100, the first men’s ski jumping event of the 2011 FIS Junior World Nordic Ski Championships in Otepaa, Estonia.

Frenette’s World Champ result, consisting of 87 and 80 meter jumps, follows a top-20 World Cup finish (18th) in Sapporo, Japan.  Christian Friberg (Roseville, MN) finished 31st and Brain Wallace (Woodbury, MN) 52nd to round out Friday’s U.S. results. Canada’s Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes finished 35th.

Bulgaria’s Vladimir Zografski took first in the event with jump of 98 and 95 meters, with Austria’s Stefan Kraft in second and Estonia’s hometown hero Kaarel Nurmsalu in third.  On his second jump, Kraft sailed 100 meters, good for the longest jump of the day. Frenette and Co. return to action Sunday, Jan. 30.
