Job Opportunity – Groomer Operator @ Whistler Olympic Park

August 20, 2017 – The Groomer Operators at Whistler Olympic Park ensure that every visitor to one of North America’s preeminent Cross Country Ski facilities has a chance to ski like an Olympian. The trail design and weather conditions of the Callaghan Valley provides an ideal challenge for the experienced operator to expand their skills and learn something new every day. Responsible for the day-to-day grooming and snow management of Whistler Olympic Park’s trail network and snow play areas to create an optimum experience for guests of all levels.  The safe and careful operation of a modern fleet of Pisten Bully and Prinoth snow cats, as well as snowmobile grooming equipment is required.  Seasonal full time and casual role(s) require the flexibility to work weekends and nights.

Responsibilities:
  • Reporting to the Supervisor, Trails and Roads, work with other Groomer Operators to ensure optimum day-to-day grooming and maintenance of trail network terrain
  • Create high quality trail conditions for guests of all levels
  • Operation of grooming machinery including snow cat, snowmobile, and winch cat in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ensure ski trails, ski jumps and play areas are clear of hazards and have a safe and high quality surface
  • Assist mechanic(s) to troubleshoot mechanical breakdowns when needed
  • Maintain grooming machinery and records
  • Operation of winch cat on ski jump landing hills and surrounds when required
  • Perform daily machine checks including pre start up inspections, shut down and post operational procedures including documentation regarding machine maintenance per established protocols
  • Adhere to all safety, operating and maintenance procedures
  • Demonstrate ability to follow directions and work in small groups or alone when required

  • Interact with volunteers to ensure their inclusion in department team
  • Assist the team and other departments with other duties as assigned or required
Education/Experience:
  • 3+ years of grooming experience
  • Good understanding of grooming principles
  • Experience operating snowmobiles and snowcats
  • Experience operating winch cat an asset
  • Knowledge of radio protocol
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and abstract required
  • Reliable winter transportation (WOP is not serviced by transit)

Skills:

  • Ability to perform physical labour on a daily basis
  • Keen and can-do attitude
  • Willingness to assist other team members (perhaps outside the department) as needed and requested
  • Exceptional customer service is essential
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather winter conditions performing physically demanding tasks
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to regularly lift 50lbs
