October 31, 2018 (Calgary, AB) – On October 31, Calgary City Council voted on whether to keep the city’s 2026 Olympic bid alive. While a majority of councillors voted in favour of a motion put forward by Olympic assessment committee chair Coun. Evan Woolley to halt the bid (8 for vs 7 against), it wasn’t enough to meet the super-majority requirement of 10 votes. Calgarians will now have the opportunity to decide whether the bid should move forward via a plebiscite planned for Nov. 13.
