Cross Country Canada Women’s Committee Announces Student-Athlete Grants for Junior Skiers

November 20, 2018 – The Cross Country Canada Women’s Committee is committed to supporting Junior Women undertaking full time study and competing at a National Level. The committee recognizes that the financial challenges associated with attending university and travel to national level competitions are a major contributor to the poor retention of female athletes from Junior to U23 level competition. Through these grants the committee hopes to encourage the continuation of the next generation of female cross country skiers to national and international success.

Value:
$500 – 3 grants available

Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible, a nominee must:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time student of a university, CEGEP, college or technical institute
  • Be enrolled full-time defined as taking a minimum of a 60% course load or greater in the qualifying semester (excluding spring or summer courses),and maintain a practice and training program acceptable to their coach.
  • Have intentions of attending at least 2 NorAm races in the 2018-2019 season and National Championships, (attending World Junior Championships would be considered as attending a NorAm)
  • Be eligible to compete in the Junior Women’s category for the 2018-19 competition season
  • Have finished in the top-10 in a NorAm in their category in the previous season (junior girl or junior women)
  • Demonstrate passion for the sport

Application process:
Interested student athletes should forward a letter to the CCC Women’s Committee that includes the following:

  • Identify academic institution and program
  • Outline short and long term athletic and academic goalsDiscuss how you balance school and training/competitions
  • Identify current ski program/club
  • Name of coach and email address (may be contacted to verify application)
  • Outline need for financial assistance and what this grant would be used for
  • List of best results from the 2017-2018 competition season
  • Discuss passion for the sport and any ways that you give back to the ski community
  • Attach proof of enrollment for 2018-2019
  • Attach an unofficial academic transcript from your most recent academic year

Applications are due by November 30, 2018

Successful applicants will be notified by December 14, 2018. Grants will be awarded based on previous results, goals, financial need, academic performance, and passion for the sport.
