Klaebo Youngest Skier to Claim Tour de Ski Men’s Overall – USA’s Lustgarten 44th

January 06, 2019 (Val di Fiemme, Italy) – Norway’s Johannes Høsflot Klaebo became the youngest male athlete to win the Tour de Ski as 43 men faced the final 9km FR Stage 7 challenge up Alpe Cermis with an average 12% climb and a maximum of 28%. Former winner, Sergey Ustiugov (RUS), finished second followed by Simen Hegstad Krüger (Nor) in third.

“It was really tough and I was really tired from yesterday. I heard from the bottom that Sergey [Ustiugov] was going quite fast so I  just tried to push myself, but it’s quite cool to be first,” said Klaebo who had a 1:20 margin at the start but only 16.7 seconds at the finish.

Krüger, who started in 5th, overtook Alexander Bolshunov (Rus) during the grueling uphill climb to claim the final podium spot. The lone US skier on the start line at his debut Tour, Benjamin Lustgarten, completed the TdS in 42nd for a job well done.
