Dartmouth Skiing Wins EISA and NCAA Eastern Regional Championships

release by Dartmouth Skiing

March 04, 2019 (Hanover, NH) – We just returned from Bates Carnival where we captured our third consecutive NCAA Eastern Regional and EISA Championships! The second half of the EISA Carnival season has been a close one, with very narrow margins deciding the final team scores at Dartmouth, Middlebury, and Bates Carnivals. After placing second at Dartmouth and Middlebury Carnivals, to UVM and Middlebury respectively, our Big Green Ski Teams turned the tables on the competition and won Bates Carnival by eight points at the end of the weekend.

We now turn our attention to NCAA Championships, which are next week in Stowe, VT. We’ve qualified a full team of athletes (Middlebury is the only other Eastern school to do so), and are excited to go up against the best that the West has to offer. We hope to see many of you there supporting the teams at Trapp Family Lodge on Wednesday and Friday, and at Stowe Mountain Resort on Thursday and Saturday.

Andi and Chris Jenny ’77 are hosting a Friends of Skiing reception on Thursday, March 7 at the Alpine Club Restaurant in Stowe (5-8pm). Complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be served, and a cash bar will be available. Our coaches and student-athletes will join the reception after the days racing. Please sign up using this link; we hope to see you there!

Nordic Update
Outside of Dartmouth Carnival – which we successfully hosted at Oak Hill after a week of temperatures in the 50s, some rain, and a hard freeze before the classic relay – we’ve been incredibly fortunate with snow conditions this winter. Every week has seen fresh snow and cold temperatures. Middlebury and Bates followed this pattern, and on both weekends we had very challenging classic skiing as fresh snow warmed above freezing for the first time and baked in the sun. Everyone on the team has worked through at least a few kilometers of having to be tough and racing without any kick on their skis.

Callan Deline [P] Dartmouth Skiing
Callan DeLine ’18 has led the Nordic Men the second half of the season. He has picked up podium finishes in the last two classic races while recovering from a broken hand. Gavin McEwen ’19 and Adam Glueck ’21 have been consistent top-15 finishers and are frequent contributors to the team score. The team finished their carnival season on a high note with their best team score of the season and five athletes in the top-30 on both days.

Katharine Ogden [P] Peter Graves
Katharine Ogden ’21 won the classic races at Middlebury and Bates Carnivals to pace the Nordic Women. Lauren Jortberg ’20 and Lydia Banchet ’19 have frequently joined her on the podium, and the rest of the team continues to stack the top of the results sheet, including at the Bates Carnival skate race where all six scoring skiers finished in the top-10.
