March 08, 2019 (Ostersund, Sweden) – Team USA’s Clare Egan led the charge finishing a career-best 11th in the Women’s 7.5km Sprint with one penalty on International Women’s Day at 33.3 seconds off the winning time. Her teammate, Joanne Reid, shot clean placing a best-ever 15th while Canada’s Rosanna Crawford was 18th with one penalty for three North Americans in the top 20.
Anastasiya Kuzmina (SVK) was crowned champion on day two of the 2019 IBU Biathlon World Championships, also suffering one penalty. Norway’s Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold shot clean to win the silver medal at 9.7 seconds back while Laura Dahlmeier of Germany claimed the bronze medal, also with clean shooting at 12.6 seconds behind Kuzmina.“I have been working all week, actually all month, with (U.S. Women’s Coach) Armin (Auchentaller) on improving my race tactics for individual start races,” said Reid. “I tried to go out and focus on a few key weak points of mine that can make a tremendous difference. For instance, I have a history of breaking very slowly from the gate, and posting a monumentally slow first lap time. It’s a process to undo something built-in like that, but we are working on it. Today, I think it went better than other days.”
