Virpi Kuitunen Gets Married

release by FIS

July 22, 2010 (Vanajanlinna, Finland) – Finland’s Virpi Kuitunen will not figure in the World Cup xc ski results lists this winter. In fact, Kuitunen won’t be appearing at all. On Friday, June 16, the former Finnish xc ski star married Jari Sarasvuo in Vanajanlinna, in Hämeenlinna Finland and became Mrs. Virpi Sarasvuo.

About 100 guests including family, friends and colleagues celebrated the wedding with Kuitunen and Sarasvuo who have been a couple since early last winter and announced their engagement in Äkäslompolo in northern Finland over Christmas. There are few details available about the wedding, but it was not a traditional bridal waltz. Instead, the newlyweds beat it up to Latin rhythms on the dance floor at Vanajanlinna, a popular wedding destination for several famous Finnish citizens.

Among the guests was Kuitunen’s former national xc ski team colleague, Aino-Kaisa Saarinen, who left directly from the wedding for a training camp in Italy. The two won Nordic World Championships gold in the team sprint together in Liberec in 2009.
