Stormer Steira Loves to Hunt Game and Medals

September 02, 2010 – “Grouse hunting can be a great workout break. You train without thinking that you’re exercising, which fits perfectly in the middle of a heavy season preparations,” says Norway’s Kristin Stormer Steira. Just a few days into Europe’s grouse hunting season, and she is already getting excited about it reports  Langrenn.com.

A member of the Norwegian women’s 4x5km gold medal relay team at the 2005 World Championships, Steira says she’s been hunting her entire life. “I first went hunting when I was twelve,” she told Langrenn.com. “I’ve always been drawn to the mountains with mom and dad, but it was only when I was 12 that I started chasing some [game] myself.”

Her hobby puts her in good company. Bjorn Daehlie, Frode Estil and Thomas Alsgaard are just a few of those who have had both gold medals and feathers in the bag.

Unfortunately she’ll have to sit out this hunting season, as she’s still on crutches following the latest in a string of complications resulting from a stress fracture in her heel, which she suffered back in June. Instead, she’s sending her boyfriend into the mountains with the goal of filling their freezer for the winter.
