February 06, 2011 (Presque Isle, Maine) – On a day given to celebration of the annual Super Bowl, the eyes of the biathlon world continue to be transfixed on day three of the E.On IBU World Cup here in Presque Isle, Maine. An unexpected deep snow fall overnight has dumped about nine inches of the fresh stuff but organizers are doing a superb job of dealing with the snow.
NBC Sports expert commentator on Nordic sports, Chad Salmela, of Duluth, Minnesota, no stranger to snow told skitrax.com moments ago that the races will take place.
“Europeans rarely see this kind of snow. It’s usually much more transformed snow and wet on average. It’s falling light and dry and even the USA team – who spend much of their time on the European continent – will have the same challenges. I expect the racing to be slower today.”
Today’s races feature a Pursuit of 12.5km for the men, and 10km for the women. Race time is 10am (men) and 12noon for the women.
