February 27, 2011 (Oslo, Norway) – Greetings from Holmenkollen! Here’s our Day 4 (Saturday) report and the fog has not lifted at Holmenkollen. We did our best to get photos but had to rely on our other senses (primarily hearing) in order to follow the action today.
The stadium commentator said this is the first time he has ever sat up in his box without seeing a single spectator. Fortunately, he could hear them. Ahvo and I got front-row seats near the finish line but stil could barely see a thing even though the jumbotron was likely no less than 80m in front of us
A little bit of controversy was overheard at the press-conference after the race about Theresa Johaug (NOr) “blocking” Justyna Kowalczyk (POL) multiple times during the pursuit.
Marit Björgen was asked at the press-conference what the secret to her success is. She said that in previous years she did too much interval training (up to 12% of her training), but now she has dropped percentage of her high-intensity training to about 5%. In addition, years of training and experience have contributed to her success.
Of course the question about her asthma medicine came up. She answered that she has asthma and the proper documents… upon further questioning, she admitted that she might not be as fast without the medication.
