Andrus Veerpalu Alleged to Have Tested Positive for Doping

by skitrax.com

April 03, 2011 (Estonia) – Retired Estonian xc ski star Andrus Veerpalu is in the news with doping allegations by the Estonian press. Veerpalu is alleged to have tested positive for an A-sample but apparently has yet to undergo the “B” sample test to confirm the positive result. According to a report in Norway’s Aftenposten Juri Järva, Secretary General of the Estonian Ski Federation, told the Estonian newspaper Õhtuleht, “We have no knowledge that Andrus Veerpalu has a positive A sample.”

The 40-year-old Veerpalu, who’s stellar career includes two Olympic golds and two Nordic World Championship gold medals, was expected to compete at the 2011 World Championships in Oslo but retired unexpectedly following his 5th place at the 15km classic Otepaa World Cup in late January just prior to the Worlds, due to a knee injury.

Apparently FIS has no investigation underway against Veerpalu.
